I have optimized the catalog and have tried on numerous occasions anything I could find that would help improve performance.

I like you, based on Adobe's advice, created a single Catalog for all images, which currently number 63,365. I have tried the Lightroom 5.2 RC but it made no difference as I am stuck with the same issues. My system has had no issues with other programs including CakeWalk Sonar X2 (Digital Audio Workstation software) or Power Director (video editing publishing).

Image drive - Hitachi 4 TB 7200 RPB 64 GB cache with 1.56 TB free space.I have a good system that should not even break a sweat running a program like Lightroom. If there are not a large number of complaining users I have doubts Adobe will take the time to address or even look at the issue based on past performance and lack of urgency to address performance issues. Seeing is believing and this may be an important in this case as the only reference to the problem I could find is this thread. I am going to look for a way to document what I am seeing and get that to Adobe. Tweaking an image that is open works well enough but is not as good as version 3. In the develop module, if I pre-build my previews I can get some work done although it is slow selecting images. Lightroom 5 appears to have this same issue and issues with the entire library module. I was having keyword performance issues in the 4 versions and letting Lightroom recreate it's "Lightroom 4 Preferences.agprefs" file would clear the issue temporarily but the problem would soon return once I tagged a number of images. Key wording is especially problematic and I keyword every image I process. During this period the Lightroom screen will even disappear and reappear. It can take 15 - 30 seconds for whatever Lightroom is doing to complete so you can do something else. CPU usage goes up to 12 - 15% and whole system becomes slow to respond to even mouse movements. Once Lightroom runs and you work in the library for a while the program will hang just selecting an image or two. Doing anything in the module after Lightroom runs for a while will stretch anyone's patience level to the breaking point. The program, for me, is to the point of being unusable in Library module. Have you had any luck resolving your issue? No mention that the upcoming release of 5.2, or whatever, is going to address these issues with fundamental performance. My friends are not upgrading until my problems are solved, and I would suggest anyone else out there still using LR4 to stick with that if it's working well. Committed, and crippled with an application that is only marginally usable. I would happily move back to LR4, except that after editing 6000 images from a trip on LR5, I'm rather committed at this point. Eventually (while I've been typing this) the system comes back and will play the next video properly. Went to a third video and again it is hung, playing only sound with no progress on the video. Very simple capture frame edits and applied the preset. Save hadn't worked, so immediately did that again, with optimize. Because of dialogue box coming and going, I couldn't even exit LR from Task Manager. White screen with LR dialogue box saying it was saving, alternating with task bar saying LR not responding. I came back an hour later and the system was hung. Same performance on several videos that I tried. I tried working on video today, but could only get sound to play, the video just hung.

You have no idea if LR has recognized your selecting images in Grid view, so you wait, and they usually show selected after 10-15 seconds. post for LR4 optimization, and optimized with save on exit, but slow performance in both Library and Develop modes that was not present in LR4. Like jh_photos I have checked all items in the Dec. No problems with LR4, so I was happy to pay to get the new features. I have posted previously on slow performance of LR5.

LR is working fine in the Develop module. So, the issues I am seeing seem to be in Lightroom and not on the system itself. I optimized the hard drive and I let Norton clean the registry. Then I ran LR and tried moving the same files to the same folder and it took a long time to move just one image. I also tried moving files while in Nikon View NX2 and they were also very fast. It is also very slow displaying keywords and I now get messages when I get ready to leave lightroom that it is still writing data to the metadata.Īs a test, I went to the file manager and copied around 50 of the image files from one folder to another. Lately, I have been seeing very slow performance when moving files from folder to folder on the same hard drive.
